According to the organizers, the route follows gravel, single and doubletrack, and old colonial pistes that have long been forgotten and fallen into disrepair. We’re excited to see the Atlas Mountain Race back for another year, this time following a slightly longer 1,167-kilometre route with 23,174 metres of climbing and three staffed checkpoints along the fixed track. Nearly half of the riders scratched somewhere along the route. Sofiane Sehili finished first that year, blazing through the course in 3 days, 21 hours, and 50 minutes, followed closely by James Hayden and Jay Petervary. The inaugural event in 2020 saw nearly 200 riders at the starting line in Marrakesh, all with hopes of completing the challenging 1,145-kilometre route. After a cancelled 2021 event, the Atlas Mountain Race (AMR) is now in its second edition.
